Paul Lorraine's London/Barcelona based imprint Rhythm Cult has previously given us releases by Stephen Beaupre, Barem and Deadbeat and now serves us with a new one by the always impressive Alan Abrahams aka Portable with the Lovers & Players EP. "Reeva Numbers" is high tech and glitchy minimal, spanning close to twelve minutes; this track just builds and builds brilliantly and those church organs are an interesting touch. On the flip "Only Human" it's more beautifully haunting and emotive deep house as usual by Abrahams, reminiscent of his now classic "Hold On" and featuring his wonderful vocals. Finally "Moving Trains & You" is the most fierce effort on here; a dusty and rusty vintage house jam that grinds and clatters away furiously like a Hieroglyphic Being cut.
