Pianist/keyboardist, singer, producer, arranger and songwriter, born 4 February 1950 in The Hague (Den Haag), Netherlands.
Founding member of [b]Supersister[/b] since 1967. When that group was disbanded in 1974 he joined [b]Golden Earring[/b] for two years. In 1976 he released a one-off project [b]Stars & Stips[/b] and in the same year he was co-founder of [b]Sweet d'Buster[/b]. He left that band in 1979 to form the short-lived [b]Transister[/b]. In 1981 he joined [b]The Nits[/b], a band he left in 1996 and rejoined in 2003. In 1994 he formed [b]Frits[/b] together with comedian [a=Freek de Jonge] and his fellow band members of Nits. Since 1981 he released several solo albums and often collaborates with Freek de Jonge since the mid-1990s.
Stips has also been active as a producer, most succesfully for [a=Gruppo Sportivo]. Throughout his career he played as a guest musician with several bands and artists, for example with his old buddies of Golden Earring. Furthermore he composes music for documentaries, theatre, TV series and TV commercials. Also he works as an arranger and composes orchestral music.
