Pioneering American songwriter, producer and humanitarian. Formed R&B label Philadelphia International Records (PIR) with [a=Leon Huff] in 1971 and created the "Philly Sound".
PIR's stable included [a=The O'Jays], [a=Billy Paul], [a=Harold Melvin And The Bluenotes], [a=The Three Degrees], The Jones Girls and PIR's house band [a=MFSB] (Mother, Father, Sister, Brother) to name a few.
Formed Mighty Three Publishing with Huff and fellow PIR songwriter [a=Thom Bell].
Renowned for his humanitarian works for both civic and charitable causes which continue today, notably the "Clean Up The Ghetto" project.
Involved in (and fined for) a payola scandal at PIR in 1975.
Continues to write music with [a=Leon Huff].
Inducted into Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 (Non-Performer).
