Lisa R. Fredenthal-Lee

Hailing originally from Detroit and now based in California, Lisa R. Fredenthal-Lee, known merely as 'Lisa' during her musical career, is an international recording artist. Prior to her highly successful solo output, Lisa started her musical career as singer in a group who called themselves ‘The Nubs’*. Primarily known for her Hi-NRG, Synth-pop and Disco style releases, Lisa released her first solo single, "Jump Shout" in 1982. The single (and subsequent singles from her eponymous album) was released via San Francisco’s [l=Moby Dick Records] label, where she was label-mates with other successful acts such as [a=Carol Jiani] ‘[a=Boys Town Gang]’. Aided by Lisa’s personal appearances and club promotion, “Jump Shout” quickly gained momentum and became a huge club hit, not just in the US, but also in many other countries. Especially popular was a remix by [a=Bill Motley] and [a=Craig Morey] that had originally featured on Vol: 4, Programme 13 of the highly influential ‘[a=Disconet]’ series of exclusive DJ-only releases. In 1983, the "Lisa" LP was released, with cover art by Lisa and Robert Lee - Robert is Lisa's husband, who also acted as Lisa's road manager for her promotional tours, as well as co-writing some of her best known songs (“Invisible Love”, “Mandatory Love” and “Tempt me”).

Following "Jump Shout" were many successful singles including: "Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart", "Invisible Love" and "Sex Dance". Of special mention is the single "Rocket To Your Heart" which is possibly one of Lisa’s best known and best loved singles. “Rocket…” was notable for being released in a number of countries worldwide due its immense popularity as an import. In fact, "Rocket To Your Heart" made it to number 2 in the American Billboard Dance/Disco top 80 and was a platinum seller in Mexico, a country where Lisa's music was, and still remains, incredibly popular.

Lisa's good friend and musical collaborator is fellow Hi NRG superstar, [a=Paul Parker]. Lisa cites both Paul and producer [a=Ian Anthony Stephens] as being instrumental factors in the continuation of her music career following the initial successes spawned from her self-titled album. Paul and Ian both co-produced and arranged the singles "Passion" (written by Bobby 'O', formerly a 1982 hit for [a=The Flirts]), Holland Dozier Holland’s "Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart" as well as "Tempt me" (partly co-written by Lisa and husband Robert Lee). [a=Paul Parker] also wrote and co-produced (with [a=Man Parrish]) 1987's "Doin' It". Lisa recently returned the favour by designing the cover for Paul's 2012 release, "Baby, Come & Get It". Paul and Lisa have appeared together in the ever popular ‘revival’ tours of recent times.

Lisa's first and main love is in the creation of her visual artworks. A talented designer and artist, Lisa's main drive is the innate desire to express her creative genius through the production of her individualistic statement pieces. Lisa is also passionate about involving young people in artistic creative processes and to further this, she had her own TV series entitled "Don't Throw That Away!" which has aired across America via PBS stations. This programme earned a WAVE Award in 2009 for video excellence in education access television.

Lisa is a wife, mother, dog lover, working artist and performer who continues to delight those ‘in the know’ with her artworks and of course, her impeccable musical legacy.

*Note: the band ‘The Nubs’ are not the same band who released the 1979 single “I Don't Need You (Cause I Got Me)”. That band was not a 'West Coast' band but hailed from the Philadelphia area.
